Women's Tips

Why bodypositive is harmful and how to avoid extremes

Bodypositive - what is it? This is a social movement, originally created by feminists. It is aimed at accepting one's own imperfect body and destroying negative opinions, labels, established stereotypes of thinking in relation to people whose appearance does not meet generally accepted standards.

The modern parameters of beauty imposed by the media are not widely available. Few people can boast of their impeccable physique. Conditions to somehow meet the standard are tough. This is especially pronounced among adolescents. Problem skin is not allowed, for girls - overweight, for men - loss of hair, irregular shape of ears. Meanwhile, slender, athletic, lean, dazzling heroes of our days are constantly on display from TV screens and cinema halls, from the covers of magazines.

When you look around, do you see a lot of these beauties or beauties around you? Not! Not so many of them. Even people who are not overweight, you can find flaws in the figure. If you wish, you can always find fault with something. So what? All together start complex? Adherents of bodypositive assure: of course not!

A bit of history: how it all began

You need to refer to the story to fully understand what it is. Bodypositive was created by feminists who agreed to tell the world that a woman is not a sexual object, but a person. Their motto roughly sounded like this: “My body is my business!”. The founders of the movement offer everyone to love their appearance for what it is, without looking at the world standards of beauty. Why, then, have ideas appeared so harmless at first sight? It would seem that everything is so well and brightly invented. But how many negatives about this. What a huge amount of dirt can be found on the Internet in the address of the informal social movement. People, having learned about the bodipositivist communities, immediately begin to dismiss the idea itself in two hands, they start to vote: “Bodypositive is bad”. Why? Let's try to figure it out.

Features and principles

All can not be the same clones. Each in its own way and all together people are beautiful. Here, perhaps, one of the main explanations of what it is is body-positive. This current that came from the West declared to the world, to society: “Beauty must be natural.”

Mila Jovovich was photographed on the cover of a fashion magazine with unshaven armpits. It was a bright call to support the movement.

A little later, Dove began to focus on the natural beauty of its consumer.

In general about the problem

There are a lot of people, and everyone is different from each other. The standards of the body, which are constantly advertised on TV channels and in glossy magazines - this is only a small fraction of the diversity that exists around. Is it possible for everyone to become a superhero, an athlete, a graceful gymnast, a beauty with aspen waist? Of course not. But all around insist that we need to change!

The result: a lot of neurosis, depression associated with appearance. Especially focusing on the actual or far-fetched physical deficiency is pronounced in adolescents and young people. The peculiarity of the body can be taken as a vice, as a sentence for life.

Undoubtedly, this is a mental disorder. This is not only a consequence of external factors.

But approval, praise of other people is one of the main priorities and incentives in a person’s life.

An attentive person, having studied the idea of creating a society, can freely understand what this movement (body-positive) is fighting for. The community teaches: love your body, accept yourself as you are, because everyone does not have to be the same. All people are beautiful by nature.

Distortions. Where the excesses come from, distortions

Any trend, any idea can be distorted to disgust, inflating so that it becomes hateful. Understanding this, one can imagine what a bodypositive sect is. Here everyone understands each other and says that it is not necessary to strain and somehow strain, everything is in order. No need to do hair removal. Being a fat man is normal. There must be a lot of good man. Extremes cause rejection.

Taking care of yourself is natural. Nature does not take care of man entirely. She needs help. There is no need to look for excuses for laziness or ignorance, distorting the original idea and claiming that it is a body positive.

Medicine and Bodypositive

The words of doctors that the extra kg - a signal of disease, are being questioned. But these are, most likely, signs of metabolic disorders, the presence of diabetes, and disharmony of the thyroid gland. Doctors are cursed, ridiculed and accused of discrimination. And this is an absolute minus of the movement, proving that not everyone was able to fully understand what bodipositive is.

Usually the doctor focuses on medical indicators. For him, the main thing is the patient's health, and then his beauty.

After all, there are also metaphysical problems. They lie in the subconscious of man. They also can not be written off.

Of course, there are physical features that are not associated with losing weight or gaining the missing weight. This, for example, the unusual color and shape of a birthmark, strabismus problems, the shape of the nose, chest, legs and more. Will the services of a plastic surgeon alone help the unfortunate? Or are there alternative ways to solve appearance problems?

It is worth asking yourself: bodipositive - what is it, is it only the ability to accept one’s imperfection and live with it? First of all, it is necessary to decide in an adequate order what to adopt from the informal movement.

What can be useful

Below are tips for accepting yourself:

  • Positively accept all the flaws of your body.
  • Translate flaws in the rank of merit. Write a list: why is it profitable to remain so?
  • Reassess the characteristics of your own body.
  • Create a list of its advantages - 15 points.
  • Constantly remember them.
  • It is more often to remind oneself that true beauty is not in a doll's appearance, but in harmony of the inner world of a person.
  • Do not focus on certain parts of the body.
  • Build a positive environment.
  • Wear comfortable, beautiful, fashionable clothes, which is comfortable to be.
  • Look at the information provided by the media, gaze third-party critic or observer. We must see the idea of directors and editors who carry out orders for manipulating the mind through the media.
  • To do something nice for your body so that it understands that it is loved.

The creative side of bodipositivism

All modern psychologists call for loving your body as it is. The stage of losing weight often begins with the fact that until you love yourself with excess weight, you can not part with it.

Until self-love manifests itself fully, it is impossible to achieve success in any area of life. Only the person who is able to accept any criticism of himself can become a director of his life. "Be able to laugh at yourself, and then life will smile at you," says the saying.

World fashion trends are changing, and natural beauty is becoming increasingly popular. Appeared models with a plus-size.

Now you can see the most unusual photos with non-standard top models. This is Moffi, she has a clear cross-eyed, or, for example, Amazon Yves, whose height is 2 m 03 cm. And the question is, how do they get on the covers of magazines, the answer is that it is bodypositive. Most likely, photographers and designers want to expand the range of their creativity.

1. Bodypositive expanded the concept of beauty

It’s hard to imagine, but only 8–10 years ago, the plus size model on the pages of an authoritative glossy magazine or on the catwalk of a famous fashion house was simply unthinkable. Today, owners of non-standard figures participate in advertising campaigns of the most famous brands in the world.

Even the niche, sports Illustrated sports highlighted, presenting collections of swimwear, attracts women and women of “un-fashioned” appearance to the swimsuit at the Miami Swim Week. And it looks beautiful, not defiant. See for yourself.

4. Saved many from anorexia and even death

On the Internet, you can find a lot of projects on the topic "How Bodypositive Saves Lives." This is what the Australian Model And Founder Of Project WomanKIND, Jessica Vander Leahy, Australian Model And WomanKIND Founder Jessica Vander Leahy Says:

One girl thanked me for my positive posts about the beauty of any body. She said that my reports helped her get rid of the eating disorders that she had previously been hospitalized for. “Thank you for saving my life” - these words made me cry.

1. Bodypositive increased the number of full people.

Scientists from the University of East Anglia have noticed a curious tendency to normalize the size of the Unseen Overweight and Obesity in England. As the plus size became more and more a standard variant, the number of overweight people also increased.

More precisely, this: people simply did not consider themselves complete, although it was just that. And since the weight does not seem superfluous to a person, then there is no need to fight him - it is logical, right?

According to scientists, the movement is making people blind to their weight problems, because of the body positive, people stop noticing the very real problem of extra kilos.

2. Rid of health responsibility

Every adult is responsible for their health. This thesis, in particular, means the following: when certain physiological indicators deviate from the norms, the person carries his body to the doctor in order to establish the causes of the problems and cope with them.

But what if the norms are blurred, and the body repository repeats in your ear: “Appreciate yourself by anyone who has grown to the size of XXL, even with shortness of breath, even with acne.” In such a situation, people begin to ignore the signals of the body. And do not notice that it harms their health.

3. Caused an aggressive attitude to thin

Initially, the bodypositive taught tolerance. But today, this trend often turns into tolerance only for full people.

Fat Acceptance Movement: A Force for Tolerance or Legitimising Unhealthy Choices? calling someone weighing a few pounds lower than yours is "disgustingly skinny." Or give people involved in fitness and watching the food, offensive nicknames like "fitonyashka."

Meanwhile, this is a serious social problem that turns a healthy lifestyle into something shameful.

1. Learn to feel your body and its needs

Someone comfortable in the weight of 50 kg, someone feels great at 80 kg - and this is normal. It is abnormal if you weigh 50 kg and suffer from constant weakness. Or, on the contrary, with a weight of 80 kg you suffer from regular dyspnea and high pressure.

Listen to how your body feels. If not, try to help him.

From time to time ask yourself: “Do I eat a cake, because I want to enjoy its taste, or do I try to eat stress in this way? Or maybe I'm just bored? ”Or:“ I'm waiting for the elevator, because I really don't have the strength to go upstairs to the second floor on foot or is it laziness and the habit of moving as little as possible? ”Such questions add awareness to the relationship with the body.

If your body needs something — movement, shedding, tactile contact — don't ignore these needs. It is important to recognize them and find a way to satisfy them.

3. Respect the choice - and his, and others

The way we look, what we dress, how we position ourselves, most often is our choice. And the surrounding people are not obliged to accept this choice.

If your appearance violates some generally accepted laws in society, be prepared that someone can reject you. In turn, the surrounding, too, you may not like. However, they, like you, have the right to live according to their own convictions. And this right must be respected. This is one of the most important laws of body-positive.

1. Bodypositive is a movement only for fat people.

Now the goal of the body-positive movement is to contribute to the elimination of discrimination of people not only of different statuses, but also of different races, ages, different degrees of health (both physical and mental), different orientations and gender identities.

Of course, the fight against fetfobia is part of a body positive, as our society still discriminates against fat people. For example, people wearing a size larger than L find it harder to find their clothes, fat people are less willing to hire and treat less well: doctors often automatically assume that all the health problems of fat people are due to their weight. (Here, for example, a terrible story about a girl "overweight", in which doctors did not notice lung cancer). And fat people almost never see the images of bodies similar to their bodies in the information space. People with fat bodies are often criticized and get uninvited advice, become victims of verbal and physical violence. The problems of fat people are a large and important part of bodypositive, but not the only one.

2. Bodypositive is love for your body.

The body positivity of certain people is determined solely by the convictions that they adhere to and the conscious efforts made to follow these beliefs. It is absolutely not necessary to love yourself.

What are these beliefs?

First, to treat without prejudice to people with very different bodies and not to discriminate them either in word or deed. That is, it will definitely not be possible to be a body-positive homophobe, racist or transphobe.

Second, do not assume that some types of bodies (fat, old, sick) worse than others (thin, young, healthy). This point may seem superfluous, but in fact such a stereotype is deeply entrenched in the public consciousness: the words “fat” and “old” are used as curses, and “thin” and “young” - as approving characteristics.

Therefore, if you have set yourself the goal of becoming a body-positive person, be careful not to praise anyone's youth and thinness and not blame anyone for their lack of youthfulness and thinness. Even when we scold ourselves with such words (for example, sadly sighing at the mirror - “I'm so fat”), this contributes to the discrimination of certain types of bodies. The body-positive worldview suggests remembering that using words that describe one's bodies in a negative way hurts real-life people who “live” in such bodies.

On the other hand, the body-positive community is of the opinion that fat people who call themselves fat in a neutral manner are a positive phenomenon. Because the word “fat” is essentially as neutral as “tall” or “redhead”. Using this word to describe themselves, many activists and activists do important work on the destigmatization of the word and the people whose bodies it describes.

The third point of a body-positive worldview is not to support diet culture. A genetic culture is a culture that cult skinny and skinny bodies. And yes - this is the culture in which we live.

Tess Holliday - the most sought-after model plus size

Model Tess Holliday flew to New York when a model agent with whom she never worked sent her uninvited advice to the director: "Try to eliminate sugar from your diet, it will help your future career." And once a taxi driver asked about her cholesterol level, to which she replied only: "Do not worry, I am completely healthy."

Today, 31-year-old Tess can not explain anything to anyone - she has 1.4 million Instagram subscribers and a long-term contract with Milk Management. She also weighs 155 kilograms with height of 165 centimeters, brings up a charming baby with her husband and is the largest (in the size sense) figure in the modeling world. That, by the way, correlates with its fees.

Holliday, by her own admission, still can not cope with the childish bashfulness that arises when asked about the weight, diet or genetic predisposition to obesity. Partly, therefore - suspecting that there are not just a lot of girls in the world, but very many of them - she launched the #EffYourBeautyStandards campaign on social networks.

“It is very important to surround yourself with people who understand and support you. Know that you have a kind of community, ”Tess Holliday says in an interview with The New York Times, appreciating the possibilities of Instagram for the body-positive movement.

Interestingly, one of the recent media studies rated Instagram and Snapchat as the worst platforms for body imaging. At the same time Instagram had good marks in terms of self-expression, self-identification and emotional support. The hashtags #bodypositive, #bopo, #bodyacceptance and #effyourbeautystandards, created by the Holliday in 2011, and then added to the millions of photos of girls who had not dared to declare themselves in a similar vein, speak of this.

What is bodypositive and why it is useful

It is important to understand that a positive attitude towards the body is more than accepting its own weight. It is about making your body what it is, regardless of what is considered socially acceptable or beautiful.

Fortunately, along with accounts of glossy editions, fashion brands and Victoria's Secret models, there is a place - and a lot - for ordinary girls, each of whom may or may not become a star, show his body or not, show his flaws and not be afraid to appear funny.

“When bodily hate dominates your other thoughts, you need to make sure that in your social networks there are girls of different builds. It can be a powerful tool for the treatment of dysmorphophobia, ”explains The New York Times Claire Mysko, executive director of the National Eating Disorders Association of the United States.

Ashley Graham and the Vogue Cover Scandal

In February 2017, one of the most beautiful plus-size models Ashley Graham shared with Instagram followers the cover of the March Vogue, one of the main characters of which she became. The release titled Model Behavior: The Great Beauty Shakeup was dedicated to the models that create the industry today, and Gigi Hadid, Kylie Jenner, Imaan Hammam, Vittoria Ceretti, Advoa Aboa and Liu Wen starred for the cover.

Ashley posted the photo with gratitude, but fans of the model immediately began persecuting American Vogue for: a) all the girls on the cover were retouched b) despite the presence of other models, the “classic” Gigi and Kendall remained the central figures c) Graham made wear shorts with a white stripe, visually narrowing the thigh, and, moreover, position the hand is not like other girls to hide the belly.

And here we must again recall the radical bodipositive, which encourages girls of all sizes to be natural and natural - even in the store, at least in a fashionable shoot. Another thing is whether the girls themselves need it? When the same Tess Holliday is asked if she would like to see her photos without retouching in magazines or not, she says that this is a difficult question that can be solved differently in each individual case.

Photo: Instagram / @tessholliday

“I would give everything to the 12-year-old girl from Mississippi, whom I was, showed me today and the success that I came to. That would change her world, ”Holliday admits. And she knows exactly what she is talking about.

It makes no sense to deny that by stepping over a certain weight limit, the risk of health problems increases. So the likelihood of certain diseases exists in the case of Ashley Graham, and in the case of Tess Holiday, and in many other cases. But the benefits that such models bring to thousands and even millions of little girls around the world that size matters only when it comes to self-esteem is invaluable. All other things being equal, this is most important.

“My body is my business”

Model plus size says Kristina Krisanova:

- While I was driving to you, I read that the bodipositive movement has a simple goal: to teach people a calm attitude to those members of society who differ from them in appearance. For me, if you do not take into account the official definition, this is a story about the adoption of man himself. The important point: when a person is comfortable living with his body, he understands his strengths and weaknesses, flaws, charms and what other people consider not charms.

- Against the background of the HLS-wave, are people in Belarus ready for bodypositive?

“Bodypositive is tolerance.” Including those people who want to be embossed and too embossed. For someone, extremes are the norm. If a person is good, if he does not harm these others, everything is okay. By the way, I really like the body-positive movement motto “My body is my business”.

Therefore, I am not talking about a HLS brain. There are a huge number of people who have sports activities (excessive, as it may seem from the outside), the head is well ventilated. Physical discharge can improve mental settings.

Personally, I consider myself to be body-positive because I accept my own body. It is quite normal for myself throughout life. The only thing was a turning point when I heard: “So you are not normal! You are not beautiful. ” This is probably not some kind of conversation or meeting. I then participated in one project about appearance, beauty, and so on along with other girls plus. And after that a huge amount of dirt spilled on me. The word "fat" has ceased to be abusive. I was very impressed. Before that, I always thought: "There you are, there we are - people are different." But it turned out that you have to fight for the right to be who you are.

- What was the turning point?

- Yes, in doubt. No, I did not want to sharply decrease. But then there were projects, there were surveys, there were other reviews. The girls wrote to me and said that for the first time they can watch fashion shows and fashion shots normally. Everything has changed. I regained my confidence.

- you calmly refer to the definition of the model plus size?

- I have been doing this business one way or another for almost ten years. There were big breaks, but now there is demand. Nobody puts a label on me. I am a labor market player. There is a product, there is a need to advertise it, there is a certain image of the model that is being sought. And it is impossible not to call yourself the plus size model in this market. Because there is demand and there is supply.

Plus models are a definite range of sizes. There are girls of the 48th, there is the 56th, 60th. I was somehow refused because I am too thin. You know, when it comes to fashion, you can’t say: "I am a model, take me for who I am."

- Do you advocate bodypositive?

- Everything is pretty calm. I will not defend bodipositiv in the comments. A person will never change his opinion until something happens to him or his relatives.

I think one thing is that I don’t close, I don’t sit at home, but I calmly take part in laundry shows, choose tight clothes, even if someone may not like it, this is a small protest. Because the mass believes that people who do not fall into the standards should go to the robes and not shine anywhere. My work is aimed at promoting different bodies.

At the same time, I note that any desire to accept oneself should not turn into fascism. “I accept myself and do not accept those who are not like me” - this is too rude. Basically, we are talking about one of the varieties of tolerance. Different - equal. Tolerance to weight.

Someone is thin, someone is not. I even stopped at the very word “fat”. There is a moment of mental health that is more important. Any publication on the Internet with my participation is commented in the spirit of “how I was born into the world and walk on it”. Okay.

- Purely medical moment. Heavy weight may increase the risk of disease.

“I can say that the motto“ My body is my business ”is as beautiful as a few paragraphs above. And answers many questions. I read one opinion. To speak in the spirit of “grow thin, or you will get sick” is a great hypocrisy. Overweight and all that - well, good. But let the advisers look after their medical records, okay? We are adults capable people. We are ready to make decisions ourselves and take responsibility for them. Everything. Point.

- How is your health?

- I think that is healthy.

- Do you think or do doctors think?

- I pass inspection every year. Doctors say that everything is fine.

"A fat person has the right to be fat without propaganda"

Says fitness trainer Andrey Tkachev.

- If a person thinks that bodypositive just gives him the opportunity to be bold, it means that he clearly did not understand something like that. There is a substitution of concepts. This is problem.

- And what is bodipositive?

- Acceptance of any bodily abnormality. Excess weight is also a deviation. Directly medical diagnosis, which is called "obesity." But in most cases it is not a disease that is caused by some kind of genetic disorder or tragic accident. There is no obesity gene. There is a banal laziness and unwillingness to look after yourself. And even if we are talking about diseases, then the lack of desire to treat them is also laziness.

Obesity is only 15-20% of people who are overweight. The rest is a bunch of associated diseases. As a rule, for the same plus size models with which the whole bodypositive is mistakenly associated, the history with diets and workouts does not work. They need to work specifically with doctors.

Excess weight carries with it diseases, loss of functionality, living standards drop if you cannot climb to the third floor without shortness of breath or are not able to tie shoelaces.

Everyone knows that the endocrine system immediately flies from obesity, this is a disruption of all the internal systems of the body, the digestive tract suffers simply monstrous. Well, in general, a medical fact: among people with obesity, mortality is higher. High risks of coronary heart disease, atherosclerosis, and so on - this is not healthy. Yes, no one says that an extra dozen of weight will kill you right now, but it increases the risks of diseases, which with a high probability will finish you up to 50. Do you want to spend half your life in queues at the clinic and work on medications?

Almost all the so-called plus size models in one or another period of time tried to lose weight. This is not a story about "I have been overweight and enjoyed my whole life." They tried to lose weight, but they did not succeed. I wrote a direct cloud such: "I want to lose weight, come on, come on, come on." But the majority did not even reach the stage of drafting some kind of diet.

Any model plus size, when she will talk about possible problems associated with overweight, will begin to remember about bodypositive. I had one client. 24 years old, overweight more than 35 kilograms. Osteoarthritis of the knee, coxarthrosis, hypertension, gastrointestinal abnormalities, high sugar, cholesterol, estradiol scales - and this is only what was diagnosed. That is, she is actually disabled. It seems to have begun to lose weight, but then something bummed her, and she disappeared. After some time, I go to her page - opa, model plus size, cooperation in direct. Well what is it all about? The girl believes that her condition - is the norm. I do not think so.

And in general, the most popular is the popularization of bodypositive. And for some reason, this story only works for women. Why there is no fashion for men plus size? What kind of discrimination?

They used to have Kate Moss and heroin chic, they all starved themselves and went on diets. Time is remembered by the abundance of anorexichek. Now the fashion has gone on plus size. And this is the same bend, only in the other direction. Most likely, it will be just as transient. Simply, there is fashion, but there is a question of quality of life and health. I am really looking forward to when everyone starts to sink for a healthy lifestyle. After all, a healthy person is a beautiful person.

- A little bust.

- There is. But this is my point of view, as a person working with the body. I am always in good health. Instinctively, people are drawn to healthy people. This is nature. Yes, there is the slogan of body-positive comrades “My body is my business.” You are welcome. If you do not promote that full to be healthy, be full, no one will say a word to you. A fat man has the right to be fat.

I am radically against the current situation, when stupid laziness is formulated as body-positive. But I feel the same way about fitness fascism. I am also against the standards imposed by the fitness industry. These are problems of roughly the same scale. People tend to meet someone's expectations and, as a rule (due to lack of knowledge), harm their body.

“Body-positive is not just talking about excess weight”

Says a practical psychologist and psychotherapist Yanina Lovcheva.

- Bodypositive - a social movement aimed at the development of a friendly attitude towards any human body. Yours or someone else - it does not matter. For Belarus, the topic is complicated. According to my feelings, tolerance in this matter is not the strongest. A bodypositive, regardless of the level of its prevalence, requires clarification. In general, we will talk about accepting different bodies and understanding the essence of this process.

If you deliberately google links about bodipositive, it becomes clear that the movement was based on a personal tragedy. It is founded by two women sociologists. One of them prematurely died sister. The reason for this was eating disorder. And any such disorder is often associated with a distorted perception of his own body.

- The correct perception of your body - is it like?

- We can treat our body objectively and subjectly.

The object relation provides metaposition: "My body is not me, I look at it from the side." This is common among adolescents. The main task of a person in this period is to socialize. And the body is changing very much. Therefore, many adolescents perceive their own body as a tool: “If I look attractive in appearance, they will accept me. Everything is OK".

Over time, the body is formed, at the same time some experience is gained, a person learns to build relationships with the environment. The stage of the subjective attitude to the body begins. Like, I am my body. It doesn't matter if I have a defect, my body is part of me. This is an adult position.

An example of a problem position may be as follows. A 25-year-old girl is objectively related to the body, trying to understand what is wrong. As an option, resorts to plastic. Like, a new nose - a new life. But not the fact that it will work. Behind the nose in most cases go lips, chest and frustration.

That is, to take your body to reach the subject relationship to it.

- About eating behavior. People with such violations should be engaged in themselves or the society should change their attitude towards them?

- We must understand that there are people with a variety of problems - mental and physiological, which determine, among other things, how a person looks. And for them, the story of “pull yourself together and start eating or losing weight” simply does not work.

Obesity is a psychological problem. Often those extra pounds are protection - from the outside world or unresolved personal conflicts. Thus the psyche is defended.

But still, each case must be considered personally.

There are concepts of healthy fullness, setpoint, body constitution. All of them confirm the idea that each person has his own weight range, in which he is most comfortable both mentally and physically. Someone with his 120 kilograms can live perfectly. And he may be quite healthy (good blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol levels, and so on).

There are, for example, picnics (people of the pyknic type of addition). Their bones are wide, dense, their parents were like that. You can artificially reduce their weight and make all their life go on diets, but at the same time literally sacrifice health. Therefore, it is important to understand what is the norm of weight for each individual person.

And that's what's important. It should be understood that bodypositive is not only talking about excess weight. Bodypositive is all types of bodily otherness: trauma, amputation, acne, excessive thinness, age spots, burns. The problem is that in the view of the average person the whole conversation is reduced to plus size models.

- Nevertheless, do not you think that many people are covering their laziness and unwillingness to solve problems with a body-positive?

- People form public opinion. In the Bynet, and in Runet too, there are almost no detailed sites about bodypositive. In our space, quite a bit of professional information on the topic. Plus, above already mentioned tolerance.

At the same time, I do not exclude that people can speculate on this notion. One thing is a conscious and thoughtful attitude to the topic. They say that there is a body hypothesis, I am for not giving out people who for some reason outwardly differ from the majority. Another thing - just pick up some judgments, not understanding the essence of the issue.

I can understand the reason for this situation. We live in the time of the narcissistic kooky “thin means successful”. This is one of the reasons why there are so many articles on the subject of “some kind of aggressive bodypositive”.

Now there are very ambivalent concepts and hypertrophied relations: either all super healthy and thin (although excessive thinness is not an indicator of health), or everyone practices body-positive only in terms of taking extra pounds.

If each of us pays more attention to his body, then it will be much easier to accept others.

Bodypositive target

It is difficult for people with special features not to become targets for harsh statements, and the founders of bodypositive tried to create a favorable environment for them, convey to the public that there are circumstances that a person cannot correct, and therefore there is no need to isolate him from the crowd and even more to make fun of him.

Over time, the basic idea (a tolerant attitude towards all who differ from you in some way) changed to a demanding and concrete “tolerate me”. People who could not only publicly declare a congenital or acquired disease or injury, but also proudly tell (and show) about corns on the legs, colored armpits and look for the infringement of their dignity, came to bodipositive.

Reluctance to care for your own body has become a kind of ideology. Lack of physical activity and excessive consumption of food are not reproached, and any reminders of diets and gyms are perceived as an insult.

From this point on, you can forget about the main goal of the movement - to cultivate tolerance towards others. Body-positive supporters have a desire to shock the public and aggressively enough to defend their opinions. Such a paradox: they didn’t want to stand out and unite all people, but it turned out the opposite.

Effects

New research warns that with the advent of the concept of “plus-size”, society’s attitude towards excess weight has changed: people are gaining more and more kilograms and do not see a health hazard in this, do not seek to reduce risks, and continue to lead a normal life.

After polling 23,460 respondents, scientists concluded that people began to perceive excess weight as normal. People with lower levels of education and income are more inclined to underestimate their weight and, as a result, do not seek to get rid of it. For example, in the UK, 63% of adults suffer from overweight, but only 42% of men and 69% of women know about it. The rest are sure that they are all right.

How to look is a personal choice of everyone. But one should not rush from one extreme to the other: both natural beauty can be attractive and correction of appearance can improve a person’s self-perception.

But you definitely need to work on yourself. Each of us has what we care about - from a chronic disease to split ends of the hair, and if there is an opportunity to help ourselves, then why not do this?

Maybe if you achieve inner harmony, then everything will come by itself, including the love of your body, and the desire to prove something to others will be lost? What do you think about this?
